Horseback Riding Lessons

Lessons at K4 are designed for riders of all ages and experience levels who want a safe, supportive place to learn and grow. Riders can work on everything from basic horsemanship and confidence building to more specific goals like jumping or preparing to lease or purchase a horse.

Who Lessons Are For

Ages and skill levels

  • Typical age range is 7 to 16, with a minimum age of 5 for beginners who are ready to listen and follow directions.
  • All skill levels are welcome, from true beginners to experienced riders refining their skills.

Special goals and support

  • Nervous, returning, or rusty riders are encouraged. Lessons progress at a comfortable pace with a focus on confidence.
  • Riders interested in leasing or buying a horse can receive ongoing guidance to help find a suitable match and prepare for ownership.

Lesson Types and Pricing

Private lessons

One rider, focused coaching.

  • $60 per lesson
  • 45 minutes, often running up to an hour as needed

Group lessons

Currently offered for IEA team members only.

  • $50 per rider for a one hour session

What to expect early on

Lessons focus on solid basics first. Many new riders spend the first 1 to 3 months developing balance, steering, and learning to post the trot before moving to more advanced work.

Payment options include cash, check, Apple Pay, and Venmo. A signed waiver is required for all riders before the first lesson.

Horses, Gear, and Safety

Horses and equipment

  • Riders may use well trained school horses provided by K4, or ride their own horses if appropriate for the program.
  • K4 provides all necessary tack and equipment for the horse.
  • Riders only need to bring themselves, their clothes, and appropriate boots.

Helmet and clothing rules

  • ASTM/SEI riding helmets are required for every rider, every ride. Loaner helmets are available.
  • Bring water, boots with a heel (cowboy boots or paddock boots), and long pants (jeans or riding breeches).
  • Not allowed while riding: leggings, shorts, tennis shoes, or any shoe without a defined heel.
